Neurodivergent Relating Session

Neurodivergent Consent: Autism, Communication, and Non-Monogamy

Saturday, November 7th

11:00 am

Room: Ballroom D

Consent conversations often rely on subtle social cues and unspoken expectations—but not everyone interprets those cues in the same way. This session explores how autistic and neurodivergent communication styles intersect with negotiation and consent practices in non-monogamy.

Participants will examine how differences in communication, sensory processing, and social interpretation can affect negotiation. Through presentation, guided discussion, and practical examples, attendees will explore ways to make consent conversations clearer and more explicit. Participants will leave with practical communication tools that support more inclusive and effective consent practices.

Looking for your people? Midwest Love Fest Relating Sessions are dynamic, identity-centered gatherings where attendees can connect with others who share similar lived experiences while navigating non-monogamy. These facilitated sessions create space for meaningful connections and honest discussions about the unique triumphs and challenges of relating differently within that community. Attendees will build kinship, exchange resources, share perspectives, and find a stronger sense of belonging.

Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti is a workshop presenter and community discussion facilitator who teaches about shame, consent, neurodivergence, and intersectionality. Her work explores how cultural messages about sexuality, identity, and communication shape people’s experiences. As a late-diagnosed autistic woman, Gloria brings both lived experience and thoughtful dialogue to conversations about consent, communication, and community care. Her workshops invite participants to reflect on their experiences, challenge internalized stigma, and build healthier relationships with themselves and others.
